Test Valley School initially subscribed to GCSEPod after securing some external funding. However, the impact has been so significant that they have now subscribed in their own right. GCSEPod is now a vital part of their examination preparation strategy.

The results

“Pupils with an above average GCSEPod usage achieved 0.4 higher Progress 8 scores than those with below average usage. In addition, Pupils with an above average GCSEPod usage achieved an additional 8 Attainment 8 points compared to those with below average usage.”

Test Valley School is a comprehensive secondary school with Specialist Status in Mathematics and Computing located in Stockbridge, Hampshire.

The school initially subscribed to GCSEPod after securing some external funding. However, the impact has been so significant that they have now subscribed in their own right.

Deputy Headteacher, Andrew Page got in touch to share their experiences of using GCSEPod as a vital part of their examination preparation strategy.

He said: “During the academic year 2016-2017 usage of GCSEPod broke all records with over 11,000 Pods accessed during this period. This was a phenomenal uptake given that there was only around 200 pupils in KS4.”

“Our Subscriptions Manager assisted in the analysis of the usage by individual pupils compared to their outcomes and the results confirmed why GCSEPod has become a vital part of our examination preparation strategy.”

“Analysis of GCSEPod usage during the examination period (1 March – 30 June) showed that those pupils with an above average usage achieved 0.4 higher Progress 8 scores that those with below average usage.”

”In addition, those with an above average usage achieved an addition 8 Attainment 8 points compared to those with below average usage.”

“Articles about GCSEPod regularly feature in our Parent Newsletters and in our weekly blog. The banners available in the Teacher Area make a striking addition to our digital signage and VLE homepage.”“We have arranged a Parent Information Evening for Yr 10 and 11 at which workshops on revision techniques have included the use of GCSEPod. The regular “milestone” emails which GCSEPod send us are circulated to all staff to inform them of how well pupils are engaging with GCSE Pod and to encourage them to use it as part of a flipped learning strategy.”

“100% of our year 11 students achieved at least 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C.

82% achieved at least 5 GCSEs including Maths, English and/or Welsh at grades A*-C. An impressive 27% of grades were at A* or A compared to the national average of 19.4%.

There is a very clear correlation between the subjects with the most pronounced raises in attainment (English Literature, Chemistry, Biology and Physics) and those that had the highest GCSEPod usage.

In addition, the student with the highest GCSEPod usage was also our highest achiever.

Because there has so clearly been an impact on the departments that utilised GCSEPod effectively, we will be looking to increase the use of GCSEPod across the school in coming years.”
