Visualisation is the graphical display of information which stimulates the imagination, enhances involvement with the text, and improves mental imagery. Research shows that students who internalise information are far more likely to retain it and be able to apply it in a meaningful and relevant way.

The first, and most important, consideration for teachers is that for visualisation to be effective it must make connections between existing knowledge, and what is being taught. If the students don’t possess the knowledge to understand the graphical entities and the relations between them, the visualisation won’t achieve its goal.
